Royal jelly bred by young bee-nurses from ambrosia for feeding of larvae of working bees and a queen bee, is a thick yellowish-white pasty substance that has a nice smell and characteristic sourish-burning taste. During first three days of life the larva of the worker bee receives only pure royal jelly, and then there is only a coarse gruel consisting of honey, pollen and water in a diet. But the queen bee, unlike the worker bee, from the first days to the end of its life feeds only on concentrated royal jelly, which contains in its composition all the necessary vitamins, minerals and biologically active substances for the full vitality of the body.
Because of the difference in a diet a typical worker bee lives 60-80 days on average while life expectancy of a queen bee who receives high nutritious feed is 5-7 years (moreover, the weight of eggs laid per day by a royal jelly-fed queen bees is several times larger than the mass of her own body).
Currently, like many centuries ago, the cost of royal jelly remains very high since the collection of the beekeeping product is a very labor-intensive process and lasts only few weeks per year (in the old days in Europe only kings and their retinue could afford expensive Royal Jelly).
Due to it’s nutritional and biological value, royal jelly significantly exceeds not only honey, pollen and other beekeeping products , but also cow`s milk (in particular, royal jelly contains several times more vitamins, proteins, fats and carbohydrates than milk of a cow).
Royal Jelly contains about 65% of water, 15-18% of proteins (presented mainly by albumins and globulins, related to the properties of blood serum proteins), 12-19% of carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, sucrose), 3-5,7% of fats( including sterols, glycerins, phospholipids, fatty acids -succinic, palmitic, stearic, decennia and others). Royal Jelly also contains: nucleic acids (including adenosine triphosphoric, ribonucleic and deoxyribonucleic acids), organic acids, vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B12, B15, E, A, D, C), macro-and micro-elements (potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt, chromium, sulfur, silicon and others), hormones (testosterone, estradiol, progesterone), enzymes (amylaze, glucose oxidase, ascorbic oxidase, catalase, invertase, protease, phosphatase, cholinesterase and so on), acetylcholine and other biologically active substances.
According to amino acid composition, the protein of royal jelly is closest to the protein of meat, cow milk and chicken egg, however, it significantly exceeds these kinds of animal proteins in the content of lysine, proline, aspartic and glutamic acids. Amino acid proline promotes improvement of cognitive abilities and has a beneficial effect on the condition of joints, aspartic and glutamic amino acids have hepatoprotective action. These amino acids are necessary for the full development and functioning of the brain, and amino acid lysine contains in royal jelly, improves the absorption of calcium in human body, increases the efficiency of regeneration of damaged tissues, takes part in the natural production of protein collagen, which is necessary for firmness and elasticity of skin, blood vessel walls, cartilaginous tissue and also participating in synthesis of hormones, enzymes and antibodies plays an important role in antiviral defense of the body.
The vitamin composition of royal jelly is characterized by high content of vitamins B5 (pantothenic acid) and B7 (biotin); there are 13-16 times more of these substances in royal jelly than in than in ambrosia. Vitamin B5 that is present in royal jelly is involved in synthesis of neurotransmitters (substances by means of which there is a transfer of electrical signals between neurons in the brain), has anti-inflammatory effect, promotes rapid healing of wounds, beneficially effects on condition of skin, hair and nails, improves metabolism in tissues of myocardium, regulates functions of adrenal glands and sex glands (as a consequence of deficiency of pantothenic acid in human body, very often memory loss, sleep disturbance, chronic fatigue, depression develop).
Biotin included in royal jelly (vitamin B7, also called a “skin factor”) is responsible for regulation of content of glucose and cholesterol in blood as well as vitamin B5 improves condition of skin, nails and hair, plays an important role in the process of synthesis of hemoglobin (consequences of a permanent lack in the body of this vitamins are seborrhea, dandruff, hair loss, fragility of nails, apathy, anemia, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, drowsiness, dermatitis, disorders of nervous system functions).
Related to natural adaptogens royal jelly contributes to enhancement of human body`s resistance to adverse effects of various environmental factors (cold, heat, changes of climate and atmospheric pressure, contamination of air and water, effects of ionizing radiation, influence of infectious agents, toxins, salt of heavy metals are among them).
Royal Jelly provides a general strengthening and toning effect, increases energy potential and adaptogenic capabilities of a human body if used regularly:
It has a bacteriostatic, bactericidal and antiviral effect. This product is very useful for health. It is very effective in fighting viruses, pathogenic staphylococcus and streptococcus, with causative agents of anthrax, typhoid fever, salmonellosis, dysentery and tuberculosis (such action of royal jelly is mostly due to presence of gamma globulin, germicidin, zinc and lysine amino acid in its composition).
It improves appetite and digestion. Acetylcholine, organic acids and magnesium that are contained in royal jelly increase peristalsis of stomach and intestines. Due to such components as phospholipids, amino acid arginine, threonine, methionine, glutamic and aspartic acids royal jelly has a hepatoprotective effect and prevents the development of fatty degeneration of liver. Rich in vitamin B5, royal jelly also helps to speed up the healing of mucous membranes of gastrointestinal tract affected by erosive-ulcerative process.
It improves metabolism and trophic of tissues, helps to increase muscle mass and reduce fat accumulation, increases stamina during intensive physical activity. Amino acid arginine contained in large quantities in royal jelly as well as such components as potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin E and amino acid valine help to improve musculature work. Aspartic acid and adrenaline natural production of which is enhanced by the use of royal jelly increases physical endurance. Thereby, activating the growth of muscle mass and accelerating recovery of body strengths after physical exercise royal milk is useful in diet of sport nutrition.
Royal Jelly activates production of hemoglobin, increases resistance of the body to hypoxia (lack of oxygen). It contributes to maintaining a stable level of glucose in blood in diabetes. This property is due to the presence of vitamins B1, B3, biotin, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, chrome, amino acids tryptophan, methionine, leucine and isoleucine in composition of royal jelly.
Royal Jelly promotes improvement of functional state of cardiovascular system, restores normal lever of arterial pressure, reduces cholesterol in blood, improves metabolism in myocardial tissues. The hypolipidemic effect is provided by such components of royal jelly as phospholipids, amino acids lysine and arginine, manganese, calcium, zinc, silicon, selenium, chrome, iodine as well as some vitamins of group B. Vitamins B3, acetylcholine, aspartic acid and magnesium contained in royal jelly promote the expansion of heart-feeding coronary vessels. Small dose of royal jelly helps to reduce high blood pressure and large dose, conversely, increases low blood pressure.
It activates the work of sexual glands, contributes to restoration of the optimal hormonal balance,intensifies libido, increases fertility (ability of the body to fertilize), promotes the improvement of the physiological and psycho-emotional state of women in menopause, decreases risk of developing of diseases of male sexual sphere and organs of female reproductive system.
This complex action of royal jelly is largely due to the presence of phytosterols and hormones (estradiol, testosterone and progesterone), zinc (stimulating production of male sex hormone testosterone, which increases potency and improves sperm quality), manganese, vitamin E and selenium that positively affect the process of spermatogenesis, and also connected with high content of amino acid arginine , contributing to increase of sexual activity and sexual arousal, activating microcirculation in the organs of small pelvis, stimulating the erection and beneficially affecting the qualitative composition of the sperm.
Royal Jelly helps to improve the function of adrenal and other organs of endocrine system. It activates the processes of regeneration of damaged tissues. Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), deoxyribonucleic acid, vitamins A, E and C, amino acids arginine, lysine, valine, leucine, histidine included in the royal jelly have a reparative effect.
It has a beneficial effect on the condition of skin, nails and hair (due to high content of improving skin structure pantothenic acid and biotin in royal jelly, as well as presence of a number of substances that stimulate the production of fibrillar collagen protein (among them are deoxyribonucleic acid, organic acids, vitamins C, A, E, zinc, sulfur, silicon, copper, phytosterols, amino acids, lysine, methionine, threonine, phenylalanine, leucine).
Royal Jelly improves the functional state of central and peripheral nervous system, improves memory and concentration of attention, has antidepressant and anti-stress effect, helps to restore mental performance, reduces risk of Alzheimer`s disease. Royal jelly contains neurotransmitter acetylcholine and number of components that play an important role in the process of natural synthesis of acetylcholine and other neurotransmitter (serotonin, dopamine, endorphin, norepinephrine and others)- substances through which interactions between neurons are performed and whose deficiency in human body is a frequent cause of chronic fatigue, depression, apathy, insomnia, deterioration of cognitive abilities (among components of royal jelly involved in neurotransmitter production are vitamin B5, phospholipids, amino acids proline, glutamic acid, tryptophan, glycine, valine). Also vitamins of group B, zinc, manganese, magnesium, copper, iodine present in royal jelly are very important; they prevent development of depression.
Royal Jelly has a beneficial effect on the functional state of visual apparatus;
It helps to expand lumen of bronchi and removes bronchial spasms;
It helps to increase immunity, reduces risk of developing cancer. Royal Jelly contains antioxidants (organic acids, phospholipids, vitamins B1, B3, B6, A, C, E, zinc, magnesium, calcium, manganese, selenium, copper, chromium and others), and also possessing anti tumor activity oxydecene acid (it`s anti-cancer effect is the ability to damage DNA of tumor cells).
